Navigation

No doubt there will be a moving map GPS or two in the cockpit of this bird. Right now I am leaning toward the UPS GX60. I like the idea of having an IFR certified GPS in the cockpit. If I were not worried about IFR I would probably go with a Garmin 295 or something. I am still up in the air on what to do here and it basically boils down to an IFR certification issue. I also intend to put in a VOR/ILS/GS reciever in the airplane. Probably the UPS SL30 I like that it has a CDI and OBI integrated with it so I don't have to have it connected to the head for it to be useful. I can fly the course with the GPS and not put the radio on the head until I need the ILS. Since I know very little about instrument flying at this point I am sure that these decisions will change as my knowledge grows. I hope that the technology will be improved in the next few years as I build.

Communication

I touched on using the UPS SL30 as a NAV/COM. I like the way this radio looks and I also like the fact that it ties to the UPS GPS's so that I can select a frequency on the GPS and push a button and it sets the standby frequency of the SL30. The UPS GX60 GPS is also a Communications radio so between these devices I have two tranceivers. I imagine that if I am going to venture far from home I will carry a hand held tranceiver as well.

Transponder

I like the Garmin GTX 327, for no other reason than I like how you simply have type in the four digit code and that's it. I don't like all that knob turing that you have to do on older transponders. I also like the timer that it has in it.

Autopilot

Oh if I can afford it I will go with the Tru-Trak Flight Systems solid state autopilot. I really like the fact that it is solid state. I am holding out hope that between this autopilot and some people that are working on EFIS's that I won't have to have a single spinning gyro anywhere in my airplane. I don't like moving parts.

If I can't afford the Tru-Trak I will either leave a hole in the panel for it or I'll just give up and go with the Navaid. This seems to be a pretty popular little wing leveler but it has a gyro in it. It is cheap however.
